Vidmantas Jankauskas studied at the Vilnius University and worked for twenty years at the Lithuanian Energy Institute, researching energy economics. He received his doctorate in 1983, and doctor habilitation degree in 1994. Published more than 100 scientific articles and several books. Since 1995 he was professor of economics at the Vilnius University. In February 1997 he was appointed by the President of Lithuania as a Chairman of the National Control Commission for Prices and Energy, the independent energy regulator. In April 2002 he was re-appointed for the second five-year term. In 2008 Vidmantas worked as a head of the LitPol Link project team, the project aimed at construction of the electricity interconnection between Poland in Lithuania. Since January 2010 until January 2012 was a key expert in the SEMISE (Support for Energy Market Integration and Sustainable Energy) project (one of the EU funded Inogate projects devoted to the EU Eastern neighbours). Currently is working as a senior regulatory expert in Inogate Technical Secretariat project and as a professor at the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. Vidmantas Jankauskas in 2001-2003 was a vice-chairman and in 2003-2005 was a chairman of the ERRA (Energy Regulators Regional Association).
