Johan Rens

Professor of Northwest University

Johan Rens was born in Tsumeb, Namibia on May, 18, 1964. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the North West University, Potchefstroom Campus in South Africa where he is employed for the past 27 years and currently as a professor in Electrical Engineering. Research and consultation is focused on the quality of electrical energy, non-sinusoidal waveform conditions in modern power systems, the application of network coherent data/synchrophasors in power system management and power quality benchmarking. He promotes awareness and education on aspects pertaining to the quality of electrical energy through the Southern African Power Quality Initiative, Johan Rens has published and presented in various international journals and conferences and has written a chapter in a handbook published by Wiley in 2008 on the “Analysis of Waveforms in Modern Power Systems”. He is an IEEE member.
